What is MAF Australia?
MAF stands for Mission Aviation Fellowship. It is an international Christian charity that emerged after WWII when pilots (just like my hero Alec Thomas) returned from the war wanting to use the aviation skills they’d learned in order to cause destruction to do good. Since then, they have served remote communities across the world.
The Australian arm of the charity began in 1947 and for the last 75+ years they have served remote communities in Australia. For instance, in Arnhem Land in Australia’s Northern Territory they provide essential medical flights, grocery runs, evacuations and school shuttles for remote Indigenous communities.
Why support MAF Australia this December?
There are heaps of reasons!
1) MAF offer practical help to Indigenous communities. Since 1973, they have been continually invited back by traditional owners to operate on their lands. Often they are the only ones providing services, because both governments and markets have failed to provide them.
2) I like to find meaningful ways to give at Christmas and I thought others might like to as well. But I know that the cost of living is high right now and this provides a way for you to support this work without an extra financial burden.
3) After Christmas day, I basically shut down and do nothing but read for two whole weeks, preferably by a beach. I thought others might do that too … and Heart in the Clouds is a very easy holiday read!
4) I think that my hero Alec, a WWII pilot, would fully support MAF, so I love the connection to my story.
While the book is enrolled in KU the ebook is unable to be purchased outside Amazon. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you are looking for an Amazon store that’s not the US one, you can simply replace .com with the end URL for your country (ie .co.uk or .com.au). Don’t forget to subscribe to my newsletter for the annoucement of how much money we raised!
