Yesterday’s Tides by Roseanna M. White

Yesterday’s Tides is the latest release from historical novelist Roseanna M White. If you are a Roseanna White fan (and I reckon I am one of the biggest) you are guaranteed to like this book. But even if you just like timeslip fiction that keeps you guessing until almost the very last page you’ll love this.

Here are three things I loved

A keeps-you-guessing ending. With Roseanna’s books, I come for the romance, but am always satisfied by the action. It’s one of the reasons I love them so much. With Yesterday’s Tides I didn’t in a million years see the plot of this one coming! (Although I haven yet read her Culper Ring books…maybe if I had I would have had extra clues!) I also loved the way that Roseanna kept you guessing about the characters, especially Evie Farrow. Her secrets and her past weren’t revealed until the very end of the novel.

The Ocracoke Island setting. This part of the world is new to me, and I loved the author’s affection for it. Also, I enjoyed telling my teenager that I was reading a book set in the ‘Outer Banks’ since that is one of her favourite shows on Netflix.

Fan service. Roseanna has a knack for writing characters who become friends that you never want to say goodbye to. This book is full of easter eggs and cookies where characters from her other books make appearances! I particularly loved meeting Margot De Wilde and Philip Camden again on the page.
